When Will the Punishment End

When Will the Punishment EndThe makers of this film determined to highlight two major facets in the life of the formerly incarcerated:

  • The factors that support women’s efforts to rebuild their lives after being incarcerated
  • The barriers to the efforts to rebuild those lives

In the process of making the film, WHEN WILL THE PUNISHMENT END, they discovered that not only are the formerly incarcerated feared and discriminated against, but that they are also barred, through legal and authoritative means, from the opportunities and services they need. As Stormie, one of the women featured in the documentary stated, “We don’t want special treatment. We just want to be treated equally.”

The women they met had served their time in prison, they’d paid their debt, but they faced intolerance and legal barriers. The film documents the challenges these women face making clear their longing for freedom from the stigma of their status as formerly incarcerated. They ask “When will the punishment end?”

The film makers hope that viewing this modest endeavor will touch you and that you, in turn, will share this with others. This film and others will be presented at the 2nd Annual Justice on Trial Film Festival at Cal State Long Beach coming in Sept 2014. Please tell your friends and family about the film festival and help us to spread the word that formerly incarcerated women need and deserve the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
